Keeping your Shih Tzu Gorgeous

The Shih Tzu is one of the most wonderful pets a family can have. They are lovable, fun, and have a pleasant personality. They love to please and are easy to please, too. Since they are a long-haired species, it is important to keep them well-groomed. They require a lot of care with their beautiful coats, but it usually won\'t be an unpleasant task taking care of them because they are so easy-going.

If you plan on keeping the dog\'s hair long, then it will require brushing daily. Be prepared to fight the knots that form from daily play and sleep. Luckily, Shih Tzu grooming is not bad because the personality of the pup is good. They don\'t mind you washing, brushing and styling their hair. It is almost like they know the patience will pay off and they will look beautiful when you’re done.

Be sure that you take care in de-tangling the hair before giving your dog a bath since water can aggravate the knots and make it harder to get them out. It is a good idea to dampen the hair a little before combing. Use a comb with teeth that measure three or four inches so that you can get the whole coat at one time. Start at the ends and work your way to the roots, section by section. Remember, if you are patient and do it correctly, your Shih Tzu will be patient, too. They love being touched and held, so it can be good quality time spent together. Finish up with a soft brush to make the hair shiny and silky.

Once you have finished and gotten all matts and tangles combed out, double-check around the ears and neck where it becomes matted easily. Comb these areas out gently, as they are a little sensitive, as well as the backs of the legs of your pup. Shih tzu grooming should consist of a bath after combing out. Make sure the temperature of the water is not too hot. Hold your Shih Tzu close by the body. You may want to put a wash cloth in the bottom of the sink to keep it from slipping. Wash the face and head last. It would be advisable to use tear-free shampoo since its eyes are sensitive.

Once finishing your shih tzu grooming, your pup will be prancing around showing off its new look. Since Shih Tzu love to look good, you will both benefit from the quality cleaning time spent together.
